Scrub Size Chart: Real Garment Measurements, Not Guesses
Most scrub sizing problems are not sizing problems — they are information problems. A buyer orders "medium" from three suppliers and receives three different garments, because "medium" is a label, not a measurement. This page publishes the actual garment measurements behind one of the factory's anchor styles (the Avant top and pant set, from the factory size catalogue), explains how to read them, and shows how the fit system around XS–XXL works.

Measurements are garment measurements taken from the production size catalogue. "Half" measurements are taken flat across the garment — double them for the full circumference. The catalogue states a manual-measurement tolerance of 1–2 cm, which is normal for sewn garments and worth stating openly rather than hiding. Working in inches? Divide by 2.54: the M top length of 69.9 cm is about 27.5 in, and the M inside leg of 75 cm is about 29.5 in.
How to measure a wearer against this chart
- Chest: measure around the fullest part, then compare to twice the half-bust figure. A wearer with a 99 cm chest sits at the M top's 99 cm garment circumference — allow wearing ease on top of the body measurement, especially in non-stretch fabrics.
- Waist: use both pant figures. The relaxed half-waist is the garment at rest; the extended figure is the elastic-and-drawstring waist at comfortable stretch. A wearer's waist should fall between the two, doubled.
- Inside leg: measure from crotch to ankle bone and compare directly — inside leg is a length, not a circumference.
- Between sizes? Size up for classic woven fabrics; stretch platforms (four-way stretch in the stretch range) forgive a closer fit.
The fit system around the chart
XS–XXL is the size axis; fit is the second axis. The range is produced in classic fit (the theatre and institutional standard), slim fit (shaped, fashion-led blocks in the women's families), and petite, tall and oversize options within the fit system. When you kit a department, order by size ratio in one fit — mixing fits inside one size run is how uniform programs end up with a storeroom of almost-right garments.
Setting a size ratio for a bulk order
For a first department order without wearer data, a common starting ratio across XS–XXL weights the middle sizes heaviest — S, M and L typically carry the majority of a clinical workforce, with XS, XL and 2XL as the shoulders of the curve. Then adjust from your own issue records after the first cycle: uniform programs converge on their real ratio within two orders, and because the size standard is fixed, the second order is a correction — not a new experiment.
Common sizing mistakes (and what they cost)
Ordering body measurements against garment measurements. A size chart lists the garment, not the person. A wearer whose chest measures 99 cm does not automatically wear the top whose garment chest is 99 cm — wearing ease has to come from somewhere, and in a non-stretch woven it comes from the size choice. Compare body to garment with ease added, or better, fit-test the middle size on real staff during the sample round.
Treating "half" measurements as full. Half-bust 49.5 cm at size M is a flat measurement across the front — a 99 cm garment circumference. Buyers who read halves as wholes order two sizes too small, in bulk, with logos on. The chart on this page is explicit about which is which; make sure your purchase order is too.
One ratio for every department. Theatre teams, maternity wards and outpatient clinics do not share a workforce profile. The ratio that fits one will strand another with a shelf of XS and a queue for L. Keep ratios per department from the second order onward — the data is free, it is sitting in your issue records.
Petite, tall and oversize: the edges of the chart
The standard chart runs XS–XXL on regular blocks. The fit system around it adds petite (shorter top length and inside leg at the same circumferences), tall (added length for taller wearers, the inside leg being the measurement that matters), and oversize options beyond the standard run on applicable styles. Edge sizes are where uniform programs quietly fail individual staff members; specifying them at order time — even in small counts — costs little and is remembered for a long time. Ask for the fit options per style when you request a quote, and record which of your departments actually uses them.
Using this chart in a tender or purchase order
If you buy through tenders, attach a measurement chart — this one, or your own measured standard — to the specification, and require the delivered garments to measure within the stated 1–2 cm tolerance of it. That single clause converts sizing from an argument after delivery into a check at the loading dock: measure the M top's length and half-bust on arrival, and the shipment either matches the chart or it does not ship. Suppliers who publish their charts, as this page does, are telling you they expect to be measured. Suppliers who will only say "true to size" are telling you something else.
Every set in the scrub sets range is graded on this system, and jogger styles use the same waist standard with their own leg grading (see the jogger range). If your program needs sizes confirmed before bulk, order a sample in your middle size (ready in 7 days on standard styles) and measure it against this page — the chart is the contract.
